The role of the Dental Therapist here at

JEM Dental Care

We introduced the services of a Dental Therapist to our practice in July 2007 and have received excellent feedback from our patients. We would like to take this opportunity to introduce Beth and the services she can provide. Beth Lemons works with us on Saturdays and appointments are available between 9am & 3pm for your convenience.

Therapists are dental care professionals who carry out a range of procedures including fillings, fissure sealants, scaling & polishes; & extractions for children. They are fully qualified and, like dentists, are registered with the General Dental Council.

We have developed this role to assist us in meeting the NHS targets imposed on us. The therapist will carry out more straightforward procedures leaving more time for Jane to concentrate on more complex cases. Appointments can only be arranged on referral from your dentist and Jane will discuss this option with you at your examination appointment.

If you have queries on this role please feel free to speak with Jane, Liz or any team member who will be happy to answer any of your questions.
We welcome feedback on this NHS service.

The provision of NHS dentistry has changed. From the 1st of April 2006 the following changes came into effect:

NHS patients are no longer registered directly with practices. However, here at jemdentalcare we continue to provide NHS care for our regular NHS patients. Patients can register with the practice directly as a private patient.

There is now a four tier charging system for NHS patients which fees were increased on the 1st of April 2008:

NHS patients may choose to have individual private treatments. Please see our Private Treatment Price List..

Our contract with the local primary care trust (pct) is based upon the units of dental care we provide. Each dental practice has a maximum number of units of dental care that will be funded by the NHS.

At the same time, the national Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence has also introduced guidelines on how often you need to see your dentist. Our responsibility is to recommend a date based on your need.

Free treatment will continue to be available:

  • If you are aged under 18, over 18 and in full time education pregnant or have had a baby in the twelve months prior to beginning treatment.
  • If you or your partner gets income support, income based job seekers allowance or pension credit guarantee, or you are entitled to or are named on valid NHS tax credit exemption certificate or a valid HC2 certificate
  • Hospital Plan members can also have private treatment and claim reimbursement.
  • If you or your partner gets income support, working families tax credit, income based job seekers allowance or pnsion credit guarantee.
  • Or you are entitled to or are named on a valid NHS tax credit exemption certificate or a valid HC2 certificate.
  • Hospital Plan members can also have private treatment and claim reimbursement.
